Patricia Christmas, Chairman of Council, confirmed that the Club’s Membership had supported the Resolution to build a Sports and Fitness Pavilion in the grounds of Phyllis Court.
At the Members’ Special Meeting that took place on 26th April Mrs Christmas announced that the resolution had been supported by 1118 Members out of the total of 1746 who voted (64%). This means that the Council of the Club has the firm backing of a large majority of the membership to go ahead with the project.
The Sports and Fitness Pavilion will be built to a single-storey design and will include a swimming pool, gym, exercise studio, treatment rooms and changing rooms. Mrs Christmas said it would greatly enhance the sporting activities available in the Club. The current fitness groups at Phyllis Court, which include rowing, croquet, tennis, canoe & kayaking, golf, Pilates and yoga, will be delighted to have purpose-built accommodation as a result of this historic decision. Of course Phyllis Court will continue to have a wide range of interest groups including fine art, computers, jazz and wine.
The Club will now appoint a Project Manager, to move this development forward, and a major membership drive will be initiated in the next month.
