There was a carnival atmosphere at Valley Road School on Saturday with lots of families enjoying the Brazilian World Cup Mania themed fair. The new Mayor, Martin Akehurst officially opened the fair with the help from the winners of the fancy dress competition.
The Mayor also helped judge the baking competitions and gave out the prizes which were kindly donated by the Bell Bookshop, Bagatelle, Hubbledays and Robert Dyas.
As well as the traditional stalls like tombola, splat the rat, face painting, there was Guess How Many Balloons in the Goals (an impressive 200) with a prize donated by the Kenton Theatre.
Other highlights during the afternoon were the fun mini Samba Dance lesson by Victoria of DanceDesign, football games hosted by Ignite Sports and a gymnastics display from the children who attend the weekly gymnastics after-school club.
Siobhan Pratt, Chair of the PTA said, “Everyone got into the spirit and we were particularly delighted that one of the Dads sent the school some genuine World Cup decorations and prizes from Brazil. Everyone had a great afternoon in the glorious sunshine and we raised lots of money towards the new music room and the new floor covering outside the Reception class.”
