Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Gloucester attended the Henley Decorative Fine Art Society (DFAS) 40th Anniversary event at Phyllis Court Club yesterday (Wednesday). The Duchess of Gloucester, accompanied by good friends, Lord and Lady Camoys joined members at Phyllis Court to listen to a lecture entitled “At the Sign of the Falcon” given by BBC Antiques Roadshow jewellery expert, John Benjamin.

As well as organising a programme of lectures, study days and trips for its members, Henley DFAS also supports young arts in the local community. A regular supporter of the Henley Youth Festival, this year has been no exception with the society donating nearly £3,000 to provide arts workshops for local schoolchildren to attend. This year to celebrate the society’s 40th Anniversary, Nettlebed Community School designed and created a beautiful, river- inspired batik on silk banner which was unveiled at the event.

Anne Balgarnie, Chairman of Henley DFAS says: “We are delighted and very honoured to welcome Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Gloucester who is Patron of the National Association of Decorative and Fine Arts Society along with the National Chairman June Robinson and CEO Florian Schweizer to our society on the occasion of our 40th Anniversary. We are also delighted that we have eight previous chairmen of Henley DFAS at the event. The event today has gone extremely well and been a huge success with an amazing lecture by John Benjamin.  It was fantastic talk and couldn’t have been more appropriate and was very well received.”

Henley DFAS will continue to celebrate their 40th Anniversary this year with a number of events. In June there will be an afternoon tea party at Phyllis Court for members and guests and the society is delighted to announce that Loyd Grosman, President of NADFAS, will be guest speaker for the event.
