Talented students performed at Gillotts Summer Concert on Thursday evening last week.
The evening featured many talented students performing as part of ensembles as well as soloists, duets and small groups. Music Captains, Maddie Bourne and Ella Davies performed beautifully and had helped Head of Music, Mrs David in advance of the concert to choose soloists at auditions and help coach some of the smaller acts.
Helena Porter and Kiri Cheesman took on their first engagement as Head Girls by introducing the acts and giving the audience insight about the performers. Mr Bull led the Chamber Group with ‘You’ve Got a Friend in Me‘ which sounded great and Gillotts Voices showed their talent as usual singing ‘Iko iko’, ‘Can’t Buy Me Love’ and ‘Lonely Road’. Mrs David has been holding rehearsals for Year 6 students for the past 6 weeks to prepare them for the concert so they could join with the choir for a couple of songs as well as singing their own lovely version of ‘Read All About It‘ in which they were joined by Gillotts Voices at the very end of the song which the audience loved!
Our highlight was Hannah Leach-Scrivens, a Year 7 student who sang and played her own beautiful composition, ‘By Your Side’ on the piano which closed the first half of the concert. A talent definitely one to watch.
Mrs David said, “The finale of the concert saw all performers, including the Head Girls come together to sing Pompeii. Having not had a rehearsal with all students until the final piece, they did an incredible job remembering dynamics and articulation. We are incredibly proud of what our students achieved and were very grateful that we had an audience of over 100 people that included our local MP John Howell and the Mayor of Henley Kellie Hinton. It was a great atmosphere and the perfect evening to round off the school year. We are looking forward to holding many more successful events like this in the future!”
