Shining Stars in School Nativities
Over the last couple of weeks the children of Henley and Shiplake have been performing their Christmas nativity plays to the delight of their families and teachers. There have been some comedy moments and some tears of pride in all the plays. Well done to all the teachers who have made these plays so special again this year.

Badgemore
Mary’s Knitting tells the story of busy mother, Mary who is knitting away as she waits for her son, the baby Jesus, to be born. Mary played brilliantly by Ada saw her finish her knitting just in time!

Reception
Nativity Counts (brought a new meaning to counting down to Christmas!). Starring Fallon Kneafsey as Mary and Harry Collin as Joseph, it told the tale of Jesus’ birth through numbers, brilliantly guided by the narrators: Polly Sprigs, Tekle Cazier, Alexander Jewell and Lucas Emmett.
Year 1
Whoops-a-Daisy Angel told the story of two clumsy angels and their role in the nativity story with some very catchy songs. Chloe Visser and Neve van Blerk as the Whoopsy Daisy Angels.
Sacred Heart
The children at Sacred Heart put on Born This Night a lovely musical Nativity which had a great rhyming script and action songs.
Shiplake
Lights Camel Action was a very unique twist on the nativity, presented like a Strictly Come Dancing ‘talent show’. The Bethlehem Broadcasting Company records a dazzling dance show to celebrate the special occasion of Jesus’ birth, and the cast is jam-packed with nativity celebrities (including some funky camels and a disco star). They come together to recall their roles in the miraculous story. It’s a Christmas celebration like never before, with dance styles ranging from tango to line dancing and ballet to disco. Each of the different groups involved in the nativity, such as inn keepers and angels, took to the stage to dance and sing their version of events in front of the panel of judges.
St Mary’s School
It’s Christmas! Performed by children in Nursery and Kindergarten. The musical nativity was interspersed with some very sweet and funny videos of the children being asked about Christmas including, What’s in a cracker? Tell me the Nativity Story and Who pulls Father Christmas’ sleigh?
Children in Years 1-4 also performed Lights Camel Action at St Mary’s School. Most of the starring roles were children in Year 2 – Sophie Broom, Kalypso Vogel and Alex Benaar (year 2) played the Hosts. The Judges were Harry Padain as Donkey, Matilda Darrah as the Innkeeper’s Wife, and Will Harding as Caesar.
Trinity
Key Stage 1 children at Trinity School also put on Whoops-a-Daisy Angel a funny play about Daisy Angel who is clumsy and forgetful. She never gets given any important jobs to do, until one night when she gets a very special visit from the Angel Gabriel.
Reception
Christmas Carol Concert – groups of children took it in turns to narrate the traditional nativity story, interspersed with Christmas carols.
Trinity Pre-School
Children as young as 2 performed in Our First Nativity, a lovely nativity with songs based on familiar tunes and nursery rhymes. Mary and Joseph were played by Poppy and Heath and money raised from the performance was going towards buying and building a new home corner.
Valley Road
Prickly Hay performed by Key Stage 1 children is lovely new nativity musical with a fun hoedown flavour which saw some excellent cowboy dancing from children in Year 1 and an excellent lullaby solo from Mary.
