U10s Have a Successful Home Tournament
With a home tournament on a cold morning, Henley Hockey U10s girls team arrived for an early start for their latest tournament. A number of players were missing due to skiing and illness but the depth of the girls squad meant a number of players stepped up to fill the gaps. Henley were a bit slow to start with a 0-0 draw against Newbury but soon warmed up in their next game against Reading B , with a 2-0 victory with both goals coming from Kirsten and strong performances in defence by Lilian and Tara. Henley went straight into their next match against Marlow B with a strong performances and goals from both Gemma and Niamh to seal a 2-0 victory.
After a well-earned break Henley faced Reading A’s and despite tireless work in the midfield by Alex and Isabelle who displayed some lovely skills, they conceded 2 goals and lost the game 0-2 against a strong team. Not letting the defeat affect they bounced back as they defeated South Berks A with a goal from Nancy and Kirsten for a 2 -0 victory. The final game was against Newbury B and the team was improving after each game and they finished on a high with a 4-0 victory with 2 goals from Niamh and 2 from Kirsten. Excellent team work and goal scoring (10 goals) and excellent tackling and defending conceding only 2 goals in 6 matches meant that Henley had a successful home tournament.
