Scouts Go Sky High

At Scouts the Patrol Leaders and assistants have a more responsible role. The positions they hold are given to them because they have shown themselves to have something special they can pass on to others.

At 1st Henley Scouts they like to reward their extra hard work and dedication by giving them the occasional experience exclusive to them.

On the 2nd June that’s just what they did. Escorted by two Adult leaders Ailish, Joe, Sam, George, Fergus and PJ visited the Upward Bound Trust in Haddenham nr Thame.

They all spent the whole day from 9.30 to 6pm taking turns to find thermals high up in the air gliding.

Throughout the day they spent time learning all about gliders, the engineering behind them, manoeuvring gliders back and forth on the airfield but most excitingly of all they spent at least 50 minutes in the air partially getting to control them in the wonderful clear blue sky.

Linda Cookson, Scout Leader said, “This was an amazing memory they will never forget. Huge thanks go to the Upward Bound Trust volunteers who have been there for over 50 years giving young people this amazing opportunity.”

The Upward Bound Trust are currently having to look for new premises due to local land development if you can help or want to know more about this fantastic trust follow this link
