Henley Symphony Orchestra to Play on Festival Floating Stage

Henley Symphony Orchestra is delighted to announce that it has been invited to present its summer concert on the floating stage at Henley Festival on the morning of Saturday 14 July at 11.30am.

The whole orchestra, for the first time in its many years, will be able to perform in this picturesque setting in its home town. Be prepared for a trip around the world as under the
baton of Music Director, Ian Brown, we journey from Gershwin’s dazzling jazz-influenced ‘An American in Paris’ to the resounding bells and cannon-fire of Tchaikovsky’s ‘1812 Overture’, celebrating Russia’s defeat of Napoleon at the gates of Moscow. Violinist, Min Kym, will play two showpieces for the violin including Massenet’s sensuous ‘Meditation’ from the opera Thaïs, set in the deserts of Egypt. This will be a very special concert!

Min Kym was born in South Korea but grew up in the UK, beginning to play the violin at the age of six. At sixteen, she became the youngest ever foundation scholar at the Royal College of Music, and at twenty-seven, the first recipient of the Heifetz Prize. The legendary conductor Sir Georg Solti praised her “exceptional natural talent, mature musicality, and mastery of the violin.” Her autobiographical tale, ‘Gone’, tells the harrowing story of how her priceless Stradivarius violin was stolen as she waited for a train at Euston Station.
