901 lengths were swum in this year’s Henley Lions Swimarathon on Sunday at Henley Leisure Centre by 65 swimmers.
Henley Mayor, Councillor Glen Lambert did the honours of starting the event and wished all the teams “the best of luck”.
11 teams took part from Henley Sea Cadets, 1st Henley Guides, 1st Henley Brownies, Valley Road, Nettlebed and St Mary’s Schools. The Valley Road School Dolphins team swam the most lengths (104) in 40 mins, beating last year’s record by Gillott’s Dicey Dolphins team by 1 length. Unfortunately Trinity School who normally enter a number of teams were not able to this year.
The swimmers are sponsored by friends and family and the money raised is split between the organisation/school’s chosen cause and Henley Lions charities.
Gill Chappell, Leader of 1st Henley Guides said, “We try to enter teams in the Swimarathon most years. As Guides we like to do something for the community if we can. The girls who took part this year were very impressive, with just 4 of them achieving 86 laps.”
Wendy Franklin, President of Henley Lions said, “We were delighted to host our annual Swimarathon. A huge thank you to everyone who took part and to Henley Leisure Centre for the use of the pool. We hope everyone had as much fun swimming as we did watching you.”
