With the days getting longer and the weather getting warmer, Henley residents now have yet another reason take a bike ride. Henley Cycles in Duke Street opened its doors on Saturday 9 March, unveiling their treasure trove of gleaming new wheels. Owner Jason Acock, his partner Gary Truman, and Workshop Manager Dom Steward celebrated the grand opening with a launch party on Friday night.
The shop, open from 9am until 5:30pm on Mondays through Saturdays, stocks a wide range of bikes for any experience level. With Frog bikes for children and Scott and Cervelo road bikes for adults, the team can cater for first time riders right up to elite athletes. The bikes on offer within the shop are limited to road bikes, but hybrid, electric, and the odd mountain bike can be ordered in. The shop also sells helmets, clothing, shoes and accessories, so you can buy your bike with all the bells and whistles!
Henley Cycles is a passion project for owner Jason Acock, who previously worked at A W Cycles in Caversham. Though he had the idea to open his own shop mid-2018, it wasn’t until January that he and business partner, Gary, acquired the Duke Street premises. Speaking about the store’s conception, he said, “I’ve worked in the industry for a very, very long time, and I have a deep passion for cycling, bikes, and seeing people get on their bikes. It promotes so much wellbeing, self worth, happiness. I’ve lived in Henley for several years with my family, and it was a dream to one day own a bike shop. That dream has become very quickly a reality thanks to my business partner, Gary. It’s just snowballed into this wonderful shop, and hopefully we can give a little bit back to the town.”
Keeping the Henley community at its heart, the shop will also be raising money for the beloved Chiltern Centre, the local charity providing respite care for disabled children and young people. Profits from the in-house coffee bar will be donated to the Centre, giving customers even more reason to enjoy a cup of joe whilst they browse.
Henley Cycles is on a mission to make Henley a cleaner, healthier town, and would welcome people to pop in and say hello!
