Sea of Runners at Hilly HYF Run

A sea of runners could be seen on Saturday morning enjoying the HYF Run around the Borlase field (next to Henley Rugby Club) and then up the hilly field behind Swiss Farm.

The event, sponsored by Physiolistic saw 250 runners starting from Reception children right up to Year 19 with the distances starting from 0.5km to 2.5km. Before each race Benson James from The Fitness Garden got the runners all loosened up.  Regardless of age, mileage, or finishing positions, every competitor was awarded with a medal.

Schools competed to win a cheque towards sports equipment for the most entrants which were awarded to Trinity £250 (primary) and Gillotts £200 (secondary).

Badgemore Headteacher, Tim Hoskins said, “I’m delighted to see so many Badgemore children here today.  The most we have ever had. This is probably due to a parent who kindly offered to run a before-school running club recently.”  Badgemore School won the Year 5/6 girls trophy.

Matthew Dippenaar who won the senior race, said, “I’ve run it once or twice before when I was younger. I heard about it at school at a student presentation and I thought I would do it.  It was a tough course but great to win.”

Clint Botha from Physiolistic said, “We were delighted to once again organise and sponsor the HYF run which is a fantastic community event. This year saw a record number of entries with 250 children signing up for the various races. Fortunately the rain stayed away and a great time was had by all.  It’s always pleasing to see so many kids taking part in physical activity  A big thank you to all the volunteers who gave of their time and to the Henley Rugby Club for use of their facilities and Joseph and Erica Borlase from Swiss Farm who allowed the races to take place on their fields. Also wanted to put out a plea to anyone who would like to join the HYF committee to help organise the Festival for next year as a number of key members are stepping down after many years of service.”
