The Henley & Peppard Branch of the Royal British Legion would like let you know that they are very much still operating and it is only the Harpsden branch which sadly due to dwindling numbers has had to close.
Branch Chairman, John Green said, “Contrary to a headline in a local newspaper our branch is very much alive and well and the article was about the Harpsden branch closing. Our local membership continues to increase, partly due to our programme of speakers and lunches at the Christchurch centre each month which of course we will hope to resume as soon as possible. Transport can be arranged for anyone unable to attend our meetings under their own steam.”
The branch is also closely affiliated with Henley’s Aliquando choir which numbers several British Legion members in its ranks, but we’re always looking for new members so do please seek out anyone amongst your friends and family who you think may like to support us. Our local British Legion website is www.rbl-henley.org which has joining details, or please contact Mollie Jeffrey on 07768 851615 if you would like any help or more details.
John added, “Meanwhile until our monthly meetings can resume our quarterly newsletter is due out soon and your can sign up for this to arrive in your inbox, and if you would like to join the telephone buddy scheme to make and receive telephone calls and chat with fellow members, contact Nick Launders on 07711 268924.
John was collecting on Saturday morning for the Royal British Legion on Armed Forces Day in front of the town hall. He said, “It’s a shame that after last year when the army cadets went out and collected over £1,500 they weren’t allowed to do it this year. I’ve hopefully collected a few bob this morning despite the showers.”
