Last Sunday (18 October) will go down in the history books for the Henley Rugby Club. For the first time the Junior Girls squad entered a ‘Ready 4 Rugby’ tournament at Reading Rugby Club, with a team in the U13’s and a team in the U15’s. A tournament which put them against more established clubs, Reading Abbey, Gosford All Blacks, Rams to name but a few!
Coach Lisa Tavinor said, “On arriving at Reading it is safe to say that all involved, coaches, parents and players were all excited and nervous at the same time, but the nerves soon slipped away after the first game for both age groups. The girls played fantastically well throughout the afternoon, with some fabulous supporting line, which in turn allowed almost every team member to score tries. Their line speed in defence was incredible and the fact they were able to continue this to the very last game is testament to their strength as a team because due to low numbers neither age groups had any substitutes.”
“The coaching team could not be prouder of all the players, to watch them grow in confidence over the afternoon and to see them coming off the pitches with beaming smiles is just what Sundays are made for. ”
The Junior Girls (U13’s – U17’s) squad train every Sunday at 12.00 and would very much like to invite new players to come and give rugby a go and be part of something amazing!
