Architect Moves into New Shop Fronted Studio on Market Place

Simon Mack Architecture have recently relocated to a new studio at 47 Market Place next to the Town Hall with a shop frontage.

The studio is a listed building, and great care has been taken in creating a space that is both sensitive to the original building and provides a creative and inspiring space for the staff and clients. Inside is a bright double height space with a client meeting space to the front of the studio, and the architects works spaces to the rear.

Simon said, “We have purposefully chosen a shop frontage to encourage people to come in and talk to us about their projects, for all aspects of a project, from internal reconfiguration to improve the flow of a house, up to new homes. We are a friendly studio as well as an active part of the community. My family and I have lived in Henley for around eleven years, my wife teaches in one of the local schools and my daughter is currently studying at Gillotts as well as being keen rower at Henley Rowing Club. We love the town, it’s surroundings and the community, and understand how supporting local really does help, this is one reason why through our work we are committed to support our town by using locals trades, artisans and consultants whenever possible. We have a wealth of talent in Henley to be tapped into, you just need to know where to look.”

The practice specialises in contemporary residential projects from small extension to new homes and mixed use development, as well as heritage and listed building. The studio has achieved Charted practice status from the RIBA and has been based in Henley for over nine years.

Over the years, Simon has worked on some exciting projects and with some enthusiastic people in the town and the surrounding area. Simon commented, “There is a diverse housing stock and no two projects are the same, one of the perks of the job is having the opportunity to meet with the people of Henley and get to see some really interesting properties.”

Prior to moving to Henley eleven years ago Simon Mack lived in London working as the senior Architect in an award winning design studio specialising in high end bespoke residential projects and hotels, with an emphasis on interior design, something that is a strong theme in all our projects to ensure that the end product creates beautifully considered spaces, this means from the onset of a project as well as the architecture, the flow of a space, the view through spaces, the type and position of furniture which can be seen in the level of detail provided in the initial sketches. Simon explained, “Alongside our sketches we are now working with virtual reality so we can send our clients computer generated models so they can walk, or fly if they wish, through their proposals. The big benefit is this is that clients get a full immersive experience and can make all the design decisions before works start on site, meaning decisions are not made on site that may have an impact on cost and program.”
