Man in Van Approaches Child

There has been a report from Oxfordshire County Council that a man in a white van approached a primary school child this morning (14 December).

The child carried on walking and safely reached school.  The incident has been reported to the police.

There were similar incidents of Gillotts School children being approached a couple of months ago.

Gillotts Headteacher, Catharine Darnton made a statement to parents, “We will be remind students not to walk alone, or go with strangers.”

A spokesperson for Thames Valley Police said, “At around 9am this morning a girl was walking along Vicarage Road, when a man pulled up to her in a vehicle and spoke to her. The girl kept on walking and the man drove off. She was not injured and the man did not get out of his car.

Officers this afternoon carried out patrols in the area.

We would advise parents to make sure that their children are aware of what they should do if they are approached by someone who makes them feel unsafe or uncomfortable, and remind them of the best way to stay safe.

We also advise that incidents such as these are reported to either 101 or online to Thames Valley Police.”
