Love Me Do – Valentine Message to Pupils

Sacred Heart pupils got a very special Valentine’s message on Sunday from their teachers and staff at the school. They had recorded a video of themselves singing the classic Beatles’ song, Love Me Do.

Headteacher Rachel Gavin said, “I came up with the idea as we sent out a song during the first lockdown as well as photo messages from the staff to the children as a way of keeping touch. This one was just for fun!  I chose the song as it was an easy one that we already knew and that I could quickly learn to play on the piano.  It also had a Valentine’s theme which is what we were aiming for!”

The song was accompanied by Makaton sign language which the whole school often use when learning new songs and stories.  Rachel commented, “Using Makaton is an important part of our inclusive approach and also gave those of us who were less keen on appearing on film something to do with our hands!”

The video was filmed on the last day of term (last Friday) and took less than hour.  The shots from the teaching team off site were sent through later in the day and teacher Avery Penna then put the sections altogether.  Rachel added, “We wanted to make sure we had as many members of staff visible as we could.”

The video was shared on the school’s Facebook page with lots of comments including “How fantastic! Love it. Happy Valentine’s Day to you all and thank you for all you do. Thanks for making us all smile this morning!!  Rachel commented, “The feedback has been great.  Our whole community has really missed singing together which is something that we are all known for.”
