Henley Hawks have the opportunity to put last week’s disappointing result behind them when they welcome the league leaders, the Worthing Raiders to Dry Leas on Saturday for their latest National 2(South) fixture. Kick off is 3pm.
Last week’s game against Hinckley was a reminder that there are no easy games in this league, regardless of where the teams are placed in the table. The Hawks showed glimpses in the second half last week of what they are capable of and they will be looking for more composure and fluency for longer periods of the game. There is no better chance for the Hawks to get their season back on track and boost their confidence by challenging and overcoming the the top team this week.
Worthing Raiders are no strangers to Dry Leas having been in the same league as the Hawks for a number of seasons and they will be fondly remembered for their visit in the 2012-13 season when the two sides played for the League title in front of a record crowd of 3270. The Hawks won that day but Worthing are the side to beat this season. They have started the season superbly and are three points clear at the top of the table having won seven of their nine games to date.
Games between the two teams are quite often high scoring affairs and in 2019-20 season, the Hawks did the double over the Raiders, winning 63-7 at Dry Leas and 33-7 on the South Coast. Worthing’s last outing in the league was a 34-32 victory over Barnes two weeks ago.
Last week was a break week for the league so there were no other games in the league. Worthing have 36points, three points clear of Redruth and Esher with Guernsey just one point behind them. The Hawks currently lie in 10th place.
Also playing on Saturday are the Henley Bulls (2nd XV) who have a home game against local rivals Maidenhead 2. Kick off is 2.30pm.
On Sunday, the Henley Hawks Women have their latest league game. They are entertain Blackheath at Dry Leas, kick off is 2pm.
