Hawks to Face Rochford for the First Time

Tomorrow (Saturday), Henley Hawks travel east to take on Essex based side, Rochford Hundred RFC for the first time in their latest National 2 (South) fixture. Kick off in Rochford is 3pm with the Hawks looking to build on their excellent victory against the then league leaders Worthing last week.

The Hawks certainly came out of the blocks firing on all cylinders last Saturday and in the back three of Cail Cookland, Reuben Norville and George Wood have some real game changers. Henley’s commitment and intent could not be faulted against the Sussex outfit and they will now be looking for consistency in all areas of the game. The scrums and line outs didn’t quite go to plan last week and Henley will want to improve on those for the trip to Essex.

Rochford Hundred were promoted to National League 2 (South) when they won the London and South East Premier Division in the 2019-20 season.

They are currently fourteenth in the table and their three wins this season have come against Canterbury, Dings Crusaders and Old Albanian. A few of their matches have been close affairs so the Hawks will have to be at their best in Essex.

Last week, Rochford went down 23-15 at Barnes.

Cornish side Redruth take over at the top of the table following their 31-18 victory over Bury St Edmunds. They are level on points with second placed Esher who thumped bottom club Westcliff 80-7. Redruth still have a game in hand. Worthing are now third after their loss to the Hawks while Old Albanian have moved into fourth place thanks to a home win over Barnstaple. Just two points separate the top four clubs and the Hawks are now in eighth place, only nine points behind the leaders. There were also wins for Clifton and Leicester Lions last week.

Also this week, the Henley Bulls (2nd XV) have a home game at Dry Leas, taking on Bournemouth 2nd XV, kick Off is 1pm.

The Henley Vikings (3rd XV) are also at home, playing local rivals Maidenhead 3rd XV, kick Off is also 1pm.

On Sunday, the Henley Hawks Women are away at Bath. Kick off there is at 2.15pm.
