Henley Lions Football Club Announce Partnership with Her Game Too

Henley Lions and Lionesses are delighted to announce a new partnership with Her Game Too, which aims to raise awareness of sexist abuse within the realms of football.

Henley Lions and Lionesses join a number of clubs from the EFL and beyond to commit to the cause, creating further awareness to the problems faced in football by females. @HerGameToo #HerGameToo.

The club currently has 3 girls teams (Years 5s, 6s and 8s) with around 45 girls playing at the moment with a handful of girls in other age groups playing in boys teams too.

Year 5s and 6s (U10 and U11s) train on Mondays at the Henley YMCA 5pm to 6pm and the Year 8s (U13s) train on Wednesdays at Henley Rugby club 5pm to 6pm. These teams were born out of the Wildcats programme the Club ran pre summer and will begin to set up and run again soon for younger age groups.

Nick Hunt from Henley Lions said, “I decided to sign up for this as I have personally been involved in the female game for 5 or 6 years now and hear more regularly than people think, comments on how girls can’t play and shouldn’t play on the side lines or just in conversation. It hurts me to hear it and wanted to link in with this campaign if anything to educate people who think this way still and help recognise not only can girls play, but they are amazing at it too!!”

Isabella Stobie U11 Lioness said, “I love playing for Henley Lionesess because I love the feeling I get on the pitch when we as a team score a goal. The girls are all determined and we are hungry for the ball. The team work makes the dream work!”

Poppy Titchener  U14 playing in our U14 boys/mixed team added, “I like football because I like the competition and like being challenged. I like winning and the teamwork needed to win.”
