Henley Symphony Orchestra – A Concert for Christmas

If you missed the Henley Symphony Orchestra’s (HSO) main autumn concert in Reading Concert Hall on 14 November there is an opportunity to hear them again on home soil, as they help the Christmas season get off to a rousing start.

Join them at the Christ Church Centre on Saturday 18 December at 6.30pm for this light concert of popular short works that are designed to appeal to young and old alike. Enjoy singing your favourite carols accompanied by the whole orchestra. An earlier, shorter concert at 4.30 pm is specially devised for the Under 7s.

The programme is:

Bizet – Carmen Suite No. 1
Bach – Jesu Joy of Man’s Desiring
Khachaturian – Adagio from Spartacus and Phrygia
Boccherini/Berio – Night Retreat from Madrid
Leroy Anderson – Christmas Festival
Leroy Anderson – Sleigh Ride

….. with carols.

From the first concert held in a borrowed marquee in Shiplake, and now in its 52nd season, HSO has gone from strength to strength, attracting some 50 players from across the Thames Valley.

Under the guidance of Ian Brown, the orchestra promotes an annual season of four concerts, featuring internationally acclaimed artists. The aim is to provide high-quality music-making at affordable prices and to give local musicians a chance to perform the classical orchestral repertoire to a high standard.

After the concert you are warmly invited to come and enjoy mulled wine (or a soft drink) and a home-made mince pie with the orchestra.

Tickets: £15 (unreserved), students £7, under-10s £3 available from orchestra members and hsofriends2020@gmail.com or via www.henleysymphonyorchestra.co.uk/contact-us
