It was a frustrating time in the Maidenhead and District Netball League this week for both Henley Hawks teams.
On Monday (17 January) Henley Hawks Premier League team match was cancelled due to the icy conditions on court.
On Wednesday (19 January) Henley Hawks 2 faced tough opposition against GFX Tigers at Braywick Leisure Centre Courts.
The Hawks started the game strong and the teams appeared evenly matched. Lauren Maddock (GS) and Belle Tebbutt (GA) worked well together to keep the score close; with Henley only one behind at the end of the first quarter. The score being 8 – 7.
In the second quarter the opposition picked up the pace and rearranged their team to counter Henley’s attack. The defensive trio of Sarah Kenyon (GK), Jodie Curran (GD) and Sarah Filby (WD) worked hard to keep possession but The Tigers shooting was strong. The score now 17 – 12 to Tigers.
At half time, Henley Hawks 2 made some changes to the team. Holly Maddock was moved into the WD position alongisde Lousie Todd (WA) and Sarah Filby into (GD). The team continued to push hard and picked up numerous rebounds but going into the fourth quarter were frustratingly still trailing by five, the score 22 – 17 to Tigers.
Sophie Surman (C) played another outstanding game, creating space and forcing errors all the way until the final whistle but the shooting from The Tigers remained unstoppable. The game ending 27 – 21 to the GFX Tigers.
