Entrance Flower Beds Display Support for Ukraine

Blue and yellow primulas to form the Ukraine flag have been planted up today by the Gardening Buddies in the entrance flower bed at the Tesco roundabout.

The Gardening Buddies came up with the idea and approached Toad Hall who kindly donated the 150 flowers. Gardening Buddies, Catherine Notaras, Lizzie Fielding Smith and Joan Edwards completed the planting this morning.

Catherine said, “We came up with the idea and then we thought we had better reserve the plants quickly before anyone else had the same idea and then Toad Hall said they would kindly donate them.  Originally, we were going to just plant them here but Kyle Downing, Henley Council’s Horticultural Park Warden has asked if we could also add some at the entrance bed on the Fairmile too.  I think flowers can speak and give a message.  This little plot was begging to have something done.  I think it is important to show solidarity. When you come into Henley I hope this will give people mindfulness of what is happening in Ukraine and I hope it will make people think of other ways they can show their support for the people in Ukraine.”

On Saturday (12 March), Henley Town Hall will be hosting a Henley Hawker House pop-up food event in aid of Unicef from 12-4.00pm and at 3pm there will be Play for Peace performance in Market Place.
