New Menopause Clinic at ACTIVE VIII Wellbeing Centre

Berkshire Menopause Clinic are delighted to be opening and working alongside ACTIVE VIII at their Wellbeing Centre in West Lane, Henley from 27 April.   This brand new clinic will be run by Dr Shilpa McQuillan, a highly experienced gynaecologist, GP and one of an elite group of Doctors accredited by the British Menopause Society (BMS).

Sarah Roberts, Director of ACTIVE VIII, said, “This fantastic service and much needed clinic will be invaluable to the community, providing bespoke care in a centre of excellence. Dr McQuillan will be working alongside our highly experienced specialists in musculoskeletal medicine, Pilates, core stability instructors, yoga instructors specialising in small group and 1:1 exercise, stretch and movement classes, and sports massages.”

Shilpa, said “’I have always had a passion and specialist interest in women’s health.  Having over 10 years experience and many higher qualifications in menopause, sexual and reproductive health puts me in a unique position and, I am driven to  put provide the highest level of care.”

Women with peri menopausal or menopausal symptoms are asked to complete a medical and a symptom questionnaire before the first appointment with Dr McQuillan where she will discuss in more detail your symptoms, and which aspects of your health and well-being you want to see improvement.  She will then give advice and offer treatments in keeping with the latest evidence based research, in accordance with NICE guidelines and the British Menopause Society.  She will discuss the risks and benefits of different options, ensuring you have all the information to make safe, informed choices and will formulate a bespoke treatment plan, tailored to your needs, including issuing prescriptions.

Shilpa explains why she started the service, “I saw the niche in the market for good menopause care and many of my patients expressed the need for a specialist who not only has the medical qualifications but who is also caring, personable, and understands the holistic aspects of menopause care including lifestyle advice and personalising treatment and care specific to that patient in front of me. This is my ethos, drive for starting my own menopause clinic, and also the principles on which I base the service I am going to offer.”

Looking forward to opening the clinic at ACTIVE VIII in April, Shilpa comments, “Although I am professionally autonomous, I wanted to work alongside other clinics that share my ethos and philosophy of providing excellent care to women across South Oxfordshire and Berkshire. By being able to refer to one another, and for myself to be able to offer patients other local services, this encompasses an all rounded holistic approach for patients. In my experiences as a doctor, these methods benefit both physical and mental wellbeing.”
