The Henley Arts Trail Returns for its 17th Year
For 2022, the Henley Arts Trail reverts to its traditional dates in the calendar around the first weekend end in May, coinciding with the Early May Bank Holiday.
Saturday 30 April, Sunday 1 May & Monday 2 May 2022 – the Early May Bank Holiday
HAT, as it’s come to be called, showcases the vibrant visual arts and crafts scene centred around the beautiful Thames on the Berkshire and Oxfordshire border. The artists and makers are looking forward to opening their studios or hired venues to share their work over the three days. Well over 5000 visitors are expected.
Bordered by Bix in the north, Twyford in the south and taking in the villages of Kidmore End, Shiplake, Hurst and Waltham St Lawrence, the trail shows the wealth of artistic talent in the area. From skilled amateurs to award winning professionals, the trail covers the full gamut of arts and crafts.
In Henley the Henley Art & Craft Guild members will be exhibiting their paintings, sculptures, ceramics, textiles, glass, photography and jewellery at the Old Fire Station Gallery. One of the Founders of HAT, Kirsten Jones will be exhibiting her artwork with others at the Chocolate Cafe on Thameside. Work by silversmith Li-Sheng Cheng and jeweller Matthew Hitch including leatherwork and handmade soaps will be at David Rodger Sharp jewellers at 62a Bell Street. Artistry Gallery & Framing on Reading Road will showcase their local artists that include paintings, ceramics and jewellery. Studio 51 in Makins Road is a new venue for 2022 with work by Illustrator Emma Newton, ceramics by Hannah Wilson and jewellery by Diana Estornel. At the River & Rowing Museum there will be an exciting variety of original creative work by a group of seven (maybe more) local artists; Bronwen Coussens, Martina Fabian, Virginia Davis, Caroline Crawford, Patricia Lynch, Gillian Raine, Martin Eastabrook, Fiona Hunter. At the Peel Fold Wild Garden studio on Mill Lane, Nicole Etienne, Suzanne Etienne, Carol Pontin, Sue Tilbury, Lizzie will be exhibiting their work. The riverside Eyot Centre will be hosting an array of work including painting, textiles, printmaking, jewellery and glass.
All venues are free to enter*, with no obligation to buy. Guests are able to talk to artists about their work and get the chance to discover new locations around the area.
Some venues offer refreshments; some have demonstrations or workshops for visitors who want to have a go themselves, and all provide a stimulating and thoroughly enjoyable experience.
