Young Entrepreneur of Pizza Please Partners With The Baskerville

Tom Stuart, head chef and owner of Pizza Please is delighted to be hosting Pizza Tuesdays at The Baskerville’s newly refurbished garden from 5.00-8.30pm in Shiplake.

Tom is a current sixth form student at Shiplake College.  He has worked in a local restaurant since he was 13 and used his knowledge of pizza making from this time and his strong entrepreneurial skills to launch Pizza Please during lockdown in 2020 which he started by selling from his garage.

Tom said, “I was bored in lockdown and I started the business in December 2020.  He has bought all the equipment himself and he converted an old rusted horsebox himself.  The first event I did was at school as an enterprise project with 3 friends who were very lucky that I had all this ready to go.  We did it for 3 nights which was pure madness.  That was really good for ironing out any creases.”

Pizza Please offers a range of stonebaked pizzas using fresh ingredients including fior di latte mozzarella, herbs & vegetables. Their meats come from local suppliers and Tom buys the best Italian ingredients through a local Italian family business.  We sampled the delicious The Funghi and The Veggie pizzas which were perfectly light and crispy with lashings of toppings whilst enjoying the beautiful garden on a lovely summer evening.  You can choose to sit in many of the different areas – we loved the Whimsical Willow area.

The Baskerville owner, Simon Cromack said, “The renovation to our outdoor space lends itself perfectly for alfresco dining.  Our chefs love working in our outside grill area serving local butchers cuts such as ribeyes from Vicars Game and celeriac steaks with a smoky barbecue marinade.  We weren’t offering food on Mondays and Tuesdays to give our chefs some well-earned time off.  When we decided we should also offer our customers the choice of a stonebaked pizza, why would we not get the best around?  I am delighted to be working with Tom to offer this new menu to everyone.”

Tom has a busy summer ahead with weddings and parties and is going to be at the Remenham Club for Henley Royal Regatta and at Henley Festival next to the night club.  Tom said, “I spoke to Jo Bausor (CEO Henley Festival) who is a family friend and she said we’ve never had food next to the night club but we want to give it go and would you be interested.”  Plans for the business are to try out and explore a few new ideas but essentially grow the business and see where it goes. It’s exciting.  I am really looking forward to working with The Baskerville.  I already have a good reputation with the village of Shiplake from my previous pop ups so I am sure a permanent residency will work well.”
