Henley Town Ladies Football team were treated to a free golf lesson by Badgemore Park Golf Club last week.
Louise Colam from Henley Town said, “The partnership started with Badgemore Park after we held our end of season social at the Club last June. They want to encourage more women and girls into sport and became our training kit sponsors this season. Marc Goodwin then invited us to this lovely taster event and to see what golf is all about. Getting women into sport is a real area of growth in the local area and this is a great collaboration.”
Golf professional, John Routledge hosted the event with the ladies having a go at driving and long shots with different irons and then they had a putting penalty shoot-out competition where they had to get the balls through the cones. Louise won the prize of another beginners’ golf session for ladies which takes place on a Monday evening and is open to anyone who would like to attend. Louise commented, “It was really good fun and lots of ladies were interested in golf. I think personally I’m better with a larger ball.”
Badgemore Park have also offered to run some pre-season training outdoor fitness sessions on their outdoor gym rig and the team are hosting their end of season social again at the club this year.
Marc from Badgemore Park said, “We are delighted to sponsor the Henley Town Ladies team and establish what we hope will be a long-standing relationship moving forward. We are fully supportive of increasing female participation in sport and following our involvement with Girls Golf Rocks and Women in Golf campaigns here at Badgemore Park, we have been pleased to further this commitment and support in an additional sport.”
The team are recruiting for next season and have opportunities for training only members as well. If you are 16+ and would like to get involved in local women’s football contact Louise on firstname.lastname@example.org. Training through summer is on Wednesday evenings 7.30-9pm at Bishopswood playing fields.
