Greener Henley Gearing Up for Great Big Green Week
Greener Henley are gearing up for another bite of the Great Big Green Week cherry which this year runs from 24 September to 2 October.
This year with the support of Henley Town Council we are planning to take over the whole of Falaise Square on Saturday 24 September with a Great Big Green Fair with over 30 stalls and ‘green’ attractions to interest, inform and hopefully delight Henley townsfolk.
Also on Saturday morning will be a River Clean organised by Warriors on Waste. They are planning on showing the rubbish removed from the river at the Green Fair.
Diana Barnett from Greener Henley said, “This year we are concentrating on getting our local restaurants and other eateries to think about the sustainability of their menus. We are asking them to highlight their vegetarian and vegan meals they already produce and come up with a new Green Dish of the Week that we will help promote.”
“Last year 44 local shops joined in the spirit of Great Big Green Week with special window displays and joining in the Endangered Species family trail. We plan to visit all the shops soon to see if we can encourage more shops to ‘paint the town green’ and think about the sustainable choices they make.”
Other things happening this Green Week are a display of school children’s work in the library. This is in answer to Greener Henley’s Environmental Science challenge “How important are insects?” More of this lovely work will be on display at the How Important are Insects Gallery at the Fair on Saturday. There will also be a presentation of the awards to the schools involved.
The National Trust are planning a Gratitude for Nature Trail at Greys Court – a creative activity for children and Walkers are Welcome are doing a Litter Pick Walk.
On Tuesday 27 September there will be a public meeting and workshop about the proposed Climate and Nature Hub. This is for local people to have their say about the sorts of things they would like in such a facility.
The Greener Henley Business group are hosting a seminar ‘Green Tactics for Henley Businesses’ early evening of 29 September.
