Isabelle Walks Barefoot for Local Cancer Therapies Charity
Isabelle Brough (pictured far right) from Henley, braved heavy downpours and walked 40 miles mostly barefoot on Saturday in aid of Berkshire-based cancer charity My Cancer My Choices as part of the Thames Trotters team.
The 40 mile route connected all four of the My Cancer My Choices treatment locations across Berkshire starting at Bracknell Healthspace, to Charvil HQ, pausing at College of Integrated Chinese Medicine in Reading and finishing at Deanwood Golf Club in West Berkshire.
Isabelle said, “I volunteer as a massage therapist for the charity and see first hand how much cancer patients benefit from receiving treatment in a safe, welcoming environment. They come out relaxed and beaming. I love walking which made me a good fit for this challenging charity event! It felt like a huge relief to get to the finish line and although the team was thoroughly exhausted, having battled the heavy rain in the latter part of the walk, we all had a sense of achievement and gratitude for all the support we received along the way.”
My Cancer My Choices provides a safe, welcoming space for people affected by cancer to access complementary therapies, including acupuncture, reflexology, massage, reiki, and mindfulness to support physical and emotional wellbeing alongside medical treatment.
Together, the team has already raised over £8,700 to help ensure My Cancer My Choices can continue delivering and expanding its services to meet growing local demand.
“We were honoured and moved to have the Thames Trotters walking for us again,” said Claire Rhodes, CEO of My Cancer My Choices. “Their strength, determination, and compassion reflect the same qualities we see every day in the people who use our services. This walk was not just about distance – it was a celebration of lives, therapies, and the support we’ve built together across Berkshire.”
