The Henley Beaver Scouts are a group of 25 children aged between 6 & 8 and they have certainly been busy over the past few weeks. Since half term, the Beavers have been away camping at the Youlbury Scout Activity centre just outside of Oxford, where they slept in a portacabin, in bunk beds . . . Great Fun!! While away they took part in lots of games and activities including Archery and Crate Stacking, a crazy activity where you stand on top of a tower of crates that you build as high as you can until it collapses leaving a young Beaver dangling 40ft in the air. The evening ended with a traditional sing song around the camp fire.

Then a few weeks later, the Beavers were invited to have a look around the National Grid control room near Reading where they learnt about electricity, its dangers and how to use it efficiently. The following week they learned to climb at the Reading Climbing Centre and every child achieved a 30ft climb and abseil - they were all extremely brave.

Two weeks ago, they had a first aid night at the Scout Hut on Grays Road and learned how to make a 999 call, how to perform CPR and how to put someone in the recovery position. If you ever find yourself in trouble in Henley, lets hope that its one of the Henley Beaver Scouts who finds you as they will know exactly what to do.

Finally, last week the Beavers completed a Night Hike, starting at the Malsters Pub and walking back through the fields and the woods, in the dark navigating by the stars. They even got to see Jupiter.

Not a bad few weeks of adventure when you are 6. The Beavers are now taking a break for Christmas, but the fun will all start again on Sunday 13 January.
