AFC Henley Hotspurs played out a thrilling win on Saturday against Woodley Lions, coming out winners 5-3.
Jake Blackwell opened the scoring in the 5th minute with a speculative shot which the Woodley keeper could not hold on to on a very spongy pitch. After 12 minutes Ethan Turnall breaking from midfield, made it 2-0 with a strike that beat the keeper, in the 28th minute Jake Blackwell again scored after a succession of good pressure and passing. The first half saw Woodley pressure the Hotspurs defence but some good defending from James Penrose, Cameron Wright, Adam Porter and Christian Oswald in his first match saw the score at half time 3-0 to Henley.
The second half saw Woodley continue to exert pressure but Sam Butler kept them at bay with a succession of good saves, in the 50th minute Woodley scored after a lapse in the Hotspurs defence and saw them looking for a second however it was not long before a pass from their own half from Max Gaskin to James Swinburn saw Hotspurs go 4-1 up. Max Gaskin was on a number of occasions through on goal but could not get the ball in the net due to good defensive work and goalkeeping from Woodley. In the 54th minute James Swinburn again broke through after a pass from midfield by Jerome Rocks to make it 5-2, in the 58th minute Woodley beat the offside trap and scored to make it 5-3, Hotspurs continued to press to keep Woodley in their own half and the match finished 5-3, next match away to Pinewood Team on 15 December
