Henley College Students Enjoy Visit from ‘Harry Potter’ Make-Up Artist

Performing Arts diploma students at The Henley College enjoyed a visit from ‘Harry Potter’ make-up artist Mike Peel on yesterday, 25 February.

Peel has worked extensively in film, television and theatre. His credits include the Jesus Christ Superstar Arena tour, the Harry Potter film series and many other Hollywood and British productions.

Mike talked to the students about this aspect of the industry and then gave them a hands-on experience by showing them how to apply realistic wounds to each other. One student commented: ‘After the workshop had finished, it was a surreal sight seeing students getting their buses home with blood dripping from their ears or with two black eyes!’

Nic Saunders, Head of Drama at the College, said: ‘It’s important that our students get a taste of all aspects of the performing arts industry and see beyond just the ‘on stage’ aspects, so it’s great that someone of Mike’s calibre and experience will work with them. In the past students who have had workshops on these backstage elements have actually decided that this is what they want to pursue themselves – it’s all about having that moment of exposure to it.’
