Shakespeare at Shiplake with the Henley Symphony Orchestra

HSO-West

Sunday 23 June  7.30pm  at  Shiplake College

Grounds open for picnics from 6.00pm

‘If music be the food of love, play on….’   and enjoy a very special programme of music for a Summer’s evening on the lawns of Shiplake College, inspired by the words of the Bard himself.

The Henley Symphony Orchestra celebrates the dramas of Shakespeare through the music of some of the many composers around the Western World.  Starting with Mendelssohn’s evergreen classic, the overture to A Midsummer Night’s Dream, then dances from Prokofiev’s dramatic music to Romeo and Juliet, Fauré’s gentle music from Shylock, the suite from Hamlet by Shostakovich to the highlight of the evening: some episodes from Walton’s wonderful music for the film of Henry V.

What better way to while away a Summer’s evening than picnicking with friends and then enjoying an evening of Shakespearean music with the Henley Symphony Orchestra conducted by Ian Brown and reciter Samuel West (pictured above)

Tickets are£12/ £10, Under 16s/students half price from 01235 859210 or email www.henleysymphonyorchestra.co.uk/contact
