Local Man to Run Coolest Marathon for Charity

Henley resident Mike Shepherd will be taking part in the 2015 North Pole Challenge in order to raise money for his chosen charity, Invest In ME. ME is a medical condition, characterized by persistent fatigue, which Mike’s  17 year old daughter has suffered from for five years.

The condition has robbed Beth of her teenage years, including a solid secondary education, and has had a highly detrimental affect on Mike’s family. In 2012, Mike himself had a health scare which resulted in him having to be fitted with a pacemaker, which, combined with his frustration with Beth’s ME, fueled his decision to run the North Pole Challenge.

Whilst Mike has taken part in a couple of marathons before, this will be his first extreme marathon, and, as he explains, it is very difficult to physically prepare oneself for the Arctic conditions. Mike hopes to raise £50, 000 for Invest In ME and is looking for corporate sponsorship in order to help him cover the £10, 000 North Pole Challenge entry fee. Mike is investing a lot of his time and energy, and not to mention money, for a very worthy charity which is combating a very much misunderstood condition.
