Living Advent Calendar Day 8 – Dough Boys Bake in the Glory of Christmas
The Dough Boys made up of Anne Baker on the clarinet, Steve Ward on guitar and Mike Lawlor on the double bass were the 9th Living Advent Calendar surprise performance last night. They have been performing together since 2000 and the name comes from them all having worked or still working at Henley’s Lawlors the Bakers. They opened their set with the beautiful “Walking in the Air’ from the Snowman film and included other popular Christmas songs -‘ Santa’s Comin to Town’, ‘White Christmas’ and ‘We Wish You a Merry Christmas.’ The audience again really enjoyed the show and for the second night asked for an encore when they played ‘Silent Night’ with the audience joining in.
Henley Sales Charter and Boatique were the partner last night at Phyllis Court. Gillian Nahun, the owner said, “We love the venue and it is very much a part of the riverside scene in Henley and it’s a perfect joining up of both our nautical enterprises. Henley Sales and Charter office moved to a new office on Saturday at 54 Friday Street (just behind Richard Way Booksellers) and were delighted to welcome new neighbours and regular customers. At Boatique Gillian is also very excited about her new river inspired pottery which is now in store from two local potters who have created a series of beautiful fish and river inspired stoneware.
Phyllis Court provided mulled wine, orange juice and nibbles and the raffle prizes were donated by Boatique and Massage 4 Everybody. So far, in just 8 days the Living Advent Calendar has raised just over £2,000 for the four charities; Oceans Project, Regatta for the Disabled, British Legion Poppy Appeal and the Henley Youth Centre. This is already more than they made in the first year in total.
Join us tonight at the offices of Stuart Turner – entrance off Market Place. Listen out for the handbell which will be ringing to direct you. Tonight’s partner is Henley Brewhouse.
