The Royal British Legion recently held its annual county conference at Kidlington near Oxford.
The Henley and Peppard branch were awarded the coveted Goadby Trophy for the biggest percentage increase in donations from all sources to the Poppy Appeal. In total more than £30,000 was raised.
The trophy was presented to John Green (branch chairman by Air Chief Marshall Sir john Allison (county patron). Mr Green paid paid tribute to Shirley Lees the branch Poppy Appeal Organiser whose tireless work resulted in the fantastic response from the citizens of Henley and district who donated so generously. He also made special mention of Brian Hughes whose house-to-house and street collecting in all weathers produced a record breaking £3000.
At the same conference Brian Hughes was appointed County Standard Bearer for the 10th consecutive year.
