College’s Business Students Raise over £2000 for Sue Ryder
Second year students studying the BTEC Extended Diploma in Business course at The Henley College have raised an impressive £2,287 for the Sue Ryder charity. Its Nettlebed hospice is the closest to the College and requires donations of over £1 million per year to ensure its upkeep.
The students had been involved in Sue Ryder’s ‘Big Wigs’ Business Challenge as part of the course unit on managing a business event. They organised and promoted a wide range of events ranging from sponsored cycle rides and cake sales to quiz nights and an event at the town’s Over 60s Club.
The winning group of Vanessa Mesquita, Jennifer Duckett, Christian Leaver, Louise Peddle and Nina Nuzi organised a variety of smaller fundraising events to build on the seed money of £60 provided by Sue Ryder. It culminated in a charity golf event at Caversham Heath Golf Club and in total an amount of £1,185 was raised.
Pru Sly from Sue Ryder said: ‘This has been a great achievement by all of the students involved and we look forward to a continuing relationship with the course and the College as a whole.’
College Principal Tom Espley said: ‘I am very proud of our students’ achievements. It is a great opportunity to learn important business skills but at the same time to contribute so much to the local community.’
