Civic Service on Sunday to Commemorate WW1

st mary

The Civic Service is taking place on Sunday morning at St Mary’s Church.  This is an annual event at the beginning of each Mayoral year where the Mayor, representation from the Oxfordshire Lieutenancy, local Mayors and Chairman of surrounding parishes and Town Councils parade from the Town Hall to the Parish Church of St Mary’s for a multi faith service to bless the municipal year.

At the church service the Mayor invites readings from members of the community and the choir sing anthems. The service always has a theme too, which this year the Mayor has chosen to be the Commemoration of WW1.

The Civic procession will leave the Town Hall at 11.08 am and arrive at the church just before 11.15 am.  The Royal British Legion will lead the Civic procession with standard bearers and it is hoped there will be a guard of honour at the Church entrance.  There will be brief rolling road closures between 11.00am to 11.15 am and 12.15 pm to 12.35 pm to allow the procession to make its way safely to and from the Church.

The roads affected are Market Place in front of the Town Hall, along The Market Place to the  junction with Bell Street, Duke Street , Hart Street and the full length of Hart Street to the church.
