Brakspear Brews Up to Support New Swim

two-bells-mark-dunlopBrakspear is supporting the new Henley Club to Pub Swim with a commemorative ale, Two Bells, which goes on sale exclusively in the Angel on the Bridge this Friday, 18 July. A bottle of the 3.7% ABV golden ale will be given to all who complete the swim next month.

The Club to Pub Swim takes place on Saturday 9 August, starting at Henley Rowing Club and finishing at the Angel on the Bridge. The challenge to entrants is to complete the course between the 7 o’clock evening chime of St. Mary the Virgin church and the next one at 8 o’clock – hence the name of Two Bells for the beer, brewed at Brakspear’s Bell Street Brewery.

All finishers will receive a bottle of Two Bells and a medal which cleverly doubles as a bottle opener so they can enjoy their post-swim brew straight away. All competitors and supporters are also being invited to join a barbecue at the Angel on the Bridge immediately after the swim.

Brakspear chief executive Tom Davies said, “Life in Henley revolves around the river and the summer swims are a popular fixture. We’re delighted to be helping to make this new event a success and hope that all the swimmers will enjoy their bottle of Two Bells, and the barbecue at the pub.

“Henley has a strong identity and events such as the swims always gather huge support from the town. Our recent Blooming Marvellous beer, which raised money for the Henley in Bloom campaign, sold twice the volume we were expecting, thanks to residents’ enthusiasm to back the cause.

“As the Brakspear name has been part of Henley for centuries, we are always happy to get involved and support events and campaigns at the heart of the town.”

Mark Dunlop, tenant at The Angel on the Bridge, added, “Two Bells is a light, golden ale that’s perfect for enjoying on a summer’s evening, whether or not you’ve just swum 1.5 kilometres. We’re expecting it to fly out of the pub when it goes on sale at 4.00 pm this Friday.”
