Henley is a new Junior Triathlon Club.   Their aim is to provide coaching, training and competition in Triathlon.  The Club  is targeted at 11 to 16 year olds from Henley and the surrounding area who wish to progress their performance in running, biking and swim in a safe and fun environment.  The founders of the Club hope it will grow and develop just as fast as the enthusiasm of the juniors and parents who join them.   The Club is not-for-profit and being set up by two sport-crazy former Henley Scout leaders and an ex cross channel swimmer.

The Club is affiliated to Triathlon England – the home nation for the British Triathlon Federation – affording insurance for coached sessions, and access to resources and expertise in Triathlon.   Tri Henley Club members will train once a week with a qualified Triathlon Coach and enter bi-weekly competitions across the region, from Triathlons, Duathlons and Aquathons, to Cross-Country, Cycling Sportives and Openwater Swimming.

TASTER SESSIONS

To kick off the season they have two ‘taster’ coached sessions arranged, so do come and try it out (please register first):

o   Bike/Run sessions: Thursday 4 September – 6:30pm to 8:00pm, Henley Leisure Centre (coached session on Turbo trainers and off-site run at race distance)

o   Swim Session: Sunday 7 September 2:00 pm to 3:00pm, Henley Leisure Centre (coached session to practice swim race distance and open-water techniques)

Full Club membership of registered Juniors will be confirmed in mid September, with preference given to the date that the Junior first registered.   No Club fees will be requested until formal membership is confirmed.    Fees will be kept as low as possible, just the minimum to cover the cost of the training venues.    Juniors will need to apply for membership of British Triathlon membership (£20/per year with Club discount, to cover insurance for competitions and non-coached training).

TRAINING SESSIONS

Coached training sessions are currently planned for every Thursday evening from 6:30pm to 8:00pm at Henley Leisure Centre (tbc).   Typical training session will consist of warm up, specific run/bike drills for triathlon, circuit training for core fitness, Turbo Trainer bike session (on Cyclops Mag trainers), supervised off-site run (either race distance, interval training or tempo).  The session will end with a few fun and games to cool-down and round things off.
