Rainbow Inn Awarded Top Brakspear Garden Prize

Rainbow best garden winner sep 14The Rainbow Inn in Middle Assendon has won the annual ‘Best Garden’ competition run by Henley pub operator and brewer Brakspear.

Licensees Graham (Curly) & Jean Chandler were awarded the title and £1,000 prize for the beautiful gardens to the front and rear of the pub. Lovingly nurtured by the couple over their 20 years at the Rainbow, the pretty cottage style garden with its stunning views across the Stonor Valley is enjoyed by many visitors to the traditional 17th century inn.

Brakspear’s garden competition was open to all 129 Brakspear pubs. Eight were shortlisted and visited in order to select overall winners in two categories – Best Garden and Best Patio, won by the Fox & Hounds in Englefield Green near Windsor.

Jean said, “We’re delighted to have won the Best Garden award. Creating and maintaining the gardens is truly a labour of love, so it’s lucky that we love gardening! The garden has really come into its own this summer, as the good weather has encouraged customers to sit outside and enjoy the sunshine, the views, and the scents of the flowers and shrubs.”

Brakspear chief executive Tom Davies said, “It was a pleasure to judge this competition. Many of our licensees have a great talent for making the most of their outdoor space and we saw some stunning gardens and patio displays. It wasn’t easy to choose a winner, but Curly & Jean’s hard work at the Rainbow has really paid off and we’re delighted to reward their achievement.”

Curly & Jean celebrated 20 years as tenants at the Rainbow on the 20th September this year.
