Henley brewpub the Bull on Bell Street is shaking up the town’s lunching options with the launch later this month of an innovative ‘Chef’s Shop’ and new set price lunch menu.
Chef’s Shop, available from 21st October, will be sited just beyond the bar area of the Brakspear pub. It will display a mouth-watering selection of cured meats, speciality cheeses, fish/seafood dishes and fresh salads, and will be manned every lunchtime by one of the Bull’s team of chefs. Diners make their choice of foods to fill a small, medium or large plate, and watch the chef assemble it before them.
Chef’s Shop at the Bull is the brainchild of Brakspear’s new executive chef, Antony Ely. He says, “I wanted to create something different for lunchtimes, when increasingly customers are looking for lighter, simpler options and for dishes they can share with their companions.
“Chef’s Shop allows customers to choose whatever they like the look of, at a size to suit their appetite. They can see that everything is freshly-prepared and they can ask for our chef’s advice on creating their meal. We’re sourcing as much as we can locally, using seasonal produce and changing menus frequently to keep it interesting.” Customers can order from Chef’s Shop as a starter, followed by a main course from the Bull menu, or choose it as a complete meal.
At the same time, the Bull is launching a new set price lunch menu, with a similar focus on fresh, seasonal, simply-prepared dishes. The more traditional pub food menu offering dishes such as fish & chips and burger remains in place, with a range of sandwiches and new, lighter ‘on toast’ items such as chargrilled tomato, garlic and chorizo.
Antony joined Brakspear in September from The Lucky Onion Group, the acclaimed Cotswolds-based pub, restaurant and hotel group. Brakspear chief executive Tom Davies said, “We’re delighted that Antony has joined us. His ideas to refresh the Bull’s menus are bold and innovative and give our customers an option that is genuinely different to anything else in the town.
“It’s still pub food, but with a modern twist to make it more in tune with current dining trends, and we’re confident it will appeal to everyone who needs to lunch out in Henley.”
