Henley Concert Singers Concert – Fond Farewell to Melba

melba-pittMelba Pitt from Nicholas Road, Henley is to make her last appearance at the Henley Concert Singers Concerts after nearly 40 years at their Autumn Concert which is taking place on Saturday 1 November from 7.30pm at Rotherfield Greys Village Hall.  Melba’s husband originally started the group after he ran a Voice Production class when he was Headteacher at Kings James College.

The Henley Concert Singers have raised thousands of pounds over the years for local charities from their concerts (normally 2 per year). The Autumn Concert will be raising money for the local branch of the British Legion.  The concert will feature a mixture of songs from shows and operas as well as some war time songs which will be performed by soloists, duos and ensembles.  There will be something for everyone and audience is encouraged to join in.  The ticket price is £10 and includes light refreshment.  Tickets can be obtained from Melba on 01491 574891.

The singers also sing once a month at the Chiltern End Care Home and have sung at other care homes around Henley over the years. They were very grateful to the Henley Festival a few years ago for a donation of a keyboard to the group.  Melba who is 90 years young said, “It will be a fond farewell after all these years, I really enjoy singing.  Although this is my last concert I hope to still continue singing at Chiltern End.”  We would love to welcome new members to the group and we actively encourage young singers and musicians to join us.  My grandaughter Lara who is 16 has performed and sung with us.  We practice once a week on a Friday morning.”
