The November meeting of Henley Lions Club welcomed as our guest, District Governor Lion Mike Hendy who took part in the induction and welcome of our newest member, Richard Kitson.
In Mike’s address he reported that an appeal has been launched by Lions clubs to specifically support children orphaned by the Ebola outbreak.
He also said that he had been very impressed by the recent Prostate Awareness and testing evening sponsored and run by Henley Lions, and in particular, the number of results requiring further follow up (approximately 10% of the total men tested). The retired Urologist Mr. David Baxter-Smith attended the evening, and it is he that co-ordinates and follows up on the test results and has been instrumental in promoting the Prostate Awareness campaign through Lions Clubs. Whilst this event was free to all who came along for the PSI test, we are extremely grateful to all those who gave a donation to help pay for the event: any surplus will be donated to a prostate charity nominated by David Baxter-Smith.
Whist in attendance, Mike was delighted to give Long Service Awards to Lions Ian Forster -40 years, Dave Murray – 25 years and Richard Hodgson -15 years of service. Mike stated that he was most impressed with the quality of enterprise, enthusiasm and motivation for the projects undertaken by our club and for the warmth and spirit within it.
