Elsa Horne from Valley Road School approached her Year 6 teacher, Mr Shacklady to see if the class could run a Great British Bake Off competition.  Mr Shacklady said, “I thought this was a great idea and we then planned what the challenges would be and who would be the judges.”

The first challenge was to make biscuits, with over 20 entries from the class, out of 29 children.  The second week was pizzas and the third week was cakes without chocolate.  The final challenge however was anything chocolate!

The judges were four members of staff at the school.  Mrs Caroline Barefield, one of the judges said, “It was a dream judging role, the entries were delicious.  There were so many entries for the cake week we decided to sell these off after school and we raised £30 for Cancer Research UK.”

The contest was closely fought with Elsa winning by only 1 point in the final when she made a double chocolate eclair.  Close runners up were Olivia Swinburne-Johnson and Josie Sawbridge.

Elsa said, “I was delighted and shocked to win and I was really pleased that my classmates thought that my idea was a good one and had fun baking.”
