The 42nd Annual General Meeting of the Henley-on-Thames Archaeological and Historical Group was held on Tuesday 2nd December, 2014 in the Stable Barn of the former Kings Arms pub.
Valerie Alasia welcomed members and presented her Chairman’s Annual Report. Over her three year term as Chairman membership had increased and lectures had been well attended. Fears that we might exceed capacity have been resolved and we will continue to use the historic Stable Barn. A time has arrived when email and digital communication devices have become necessary in carrying out the role of Chairman. Valerie said “I prefer not to do so and therefore will not be seeking re-election.”
Peter Anderson presented the Treasurer’s report. The finances are sound and subscriptions are unchanged.
The following were elected:
- Chairman: Pamela Syrett
- Honorary Treasurer: Peter Anderson
- Committee members: Cynthia Robinson, Graham Jones, John Whiting, Ruth Gibson, Tony Lynch, Viv Greenwood
No nominations were received for Honorary Secretary. Ruth Gibson, the outgoing Secretary, having completed her three year term, wished not to seek re-election, but will, as a Committee Member, continue in the role until a replacement can be found.
Following the formal business, members enjoyed wine and mince pies followed by short talks:
- Major Paul Smyth MBE on Army Uniform
- John Cave on WWI
- Viv Greenwood on Humphrey Gainsborough
- Ruth Gibson on Roman Emperor Diocletian’s Palace in Split/Croatia
