VE Day 70th Anniversary Events
On Friday at 3pm, two minutes silence was observed outside the Town Hall to mark the 70th anniversary of the VE Day (Victory in Europe Day). British Legion standards were on parade and a short speech was made by Brigadier Malcolm Page to a small congregation.
On Sunday the Henley and Peppard branch of the Royal British Legion organised a VE Day picnic at Mill Meadows with music from the Reading Spring Gardens Brass Band playing in the bandstand.
Dave Thatcher and his son Joshua brought their 1943 Willys MB Jeep down to the Meadows to the delight of the children.
The Legion were collecting for the charity and anyone who made a donation was given a special VE Day badge.
