AFC Henley hosted their annual awards last week at the Town Hall. The awards were presented by Councillor Sam Evans starting with awards for ‘Most Dedicated’ and Most Improved’ players for each team. These included three girls – Daisy Morgan for Most Improved Junior Soccer School, Molly Skiller for Most Dedicated Junior Soccer School and Natasha Rasmussen for Most Dedicated in the U9 Hotspur Team.
The most successful team cup went to the U9 Hurricanes. They went unbeaten all season, winning all their 16 league games and seven cup games and scoring 142 goals. The season climax saw the team win the final of the EBFA U9 shield
There were also awards for the top scorers at the club who all scored 28 goals this season – Barnaby Burletson (7-a-side), Jem McAllister (9-a-side), Patrick Snookes-Owen (11-a-side) and Aneith Singh (11-a-side).
Will Bourne and Matt Tillyer were awarded Long Serving Player awards. Both joined as players at U7 and been playing in every year through to U18.
Club Recognition Awards were presented to Steve Wright and Roy Peters who have been involved with their team for the past 10 years.
Andy McIntosh and Matt Jones were presented with Club Person of the year. Andy has been involved in coaching in the club for more than 15 years and in 2015 was awarded his FA ‘A’ Licence. Matt was given the award for organising membership registration and creating the AFC Henley Twitter account and active website.
