This Christmas, for the second year running, Henley Choral Society will offer two festive performances on Saturday 10th December at St Mary’s Church at 2.30pm and 7.30pm.
HCS Chair Susan Edwards explains “Last year, due to the popularity of our evening Christmas carol concert, we experimented with adding an afternoon family friendly performance. It featured both of our Henley Youth Choirs and was a huge success attracting a large and enthusiastic new audience with ticket sales to our evening concert proving enduringly popular amongst our very loyal and established audience”.
Joining them for both concerts, will be the wonderful Onyx Brass, one of the finest brass ensembles in the UK. In addition to accompanying us in many of our items, they will also play some solos, bringing their own brand of skill and festive fun. The concerts will feature Daniel Moult, described by The Organ as “one of the finest organists of our time” will accompany both performances.
Under the direction of our exciting new conductor, Peter Asprey, this year’s 7.30pm evening performance will be bookended by two upbeat choral favourites: Handel’s rousing Zadok the Priest and Stanford’s Te Deum. There will be the ever-popular audience participation carols, interspersed with works by Tavener, Lauridsen and Palestrina, and featuring performances by the Henley Senior Youth Choir.
The 2.30pm afternoon performance will feature both the Junior and Senior Youth Choirs joining Henley Choral Society for an interactive and entertaining program especially for a younger audience and the choirs combined will demonstrate their full force by performing Zadok the Priest together.
Susan Edwards concludes: “Do come and join us on Saturday 10th December either for a fun festive afternoon or our splendid traditional Christmas evening concert. With Daniel Moult and Onyx Brass we have a first class line up to accompany the choirs and entertain the audiences. Given the level of interest we’ve had so far I’m sure both concerts will be hugely popular so I would still recommend buying your tickets as early as possible”
