Henley Players’ next production will be After the Dance by Rattigan at the Kenton Theatre from 8-11 March.
The show is based in 1939 and sees David and Joan Scott-Fowler, a married couple still trying to live the life of their (and the century’s) 20’s, who appear to trivialise everything and live hedonistic lives of pure sensation. The play’s younger generation are more serious and focused seeing such a lifestyle as immoral and inappropriate. Skilled dramatist Rattigan best known for The Winslow Boy and The Deep Blue Sea couples the style of Coward’s comedy with unspoken repressed emotion bringing to life the devastating consequences of an illicit love affair between these two generations.
Designed as an attack on the post first world war, ‘bright young things’ by the next generation, After the Dance is one of Rattigan’s darkest, most caustic and yet touching pieces of work, observing what drives us, makes our hearts ache, makes us laugh and of our capacity to hurt others.
Shows at 7.30pm daily and a Matinee at 2.30pm on 11 March. Box Office 01491 575698 https://www.kentontheatre.co.uk/
