The town got a great ‘Spring Clean’ on Saturday morning with the help of many volunteers including Councillors, Sea Cadets, RNLI volunteers, Gardening Buddies, Gainsborough residents, members of the Tennis Club, Brownies and Cubs.
Rubbish bags, high vis jackets and litter-pickers were provided by waste collection company Biffa on behalf of South Oxfordshire District Council. The event was part of the national Great British Spring Clean, which took place across the country this weekend. About 40 bags of rubbish were collected from around the town with the biggest problem still being cigarette butts.
Chair of Henley in Bloom, Councillor Kellie Hinton said, “I was thrilled with the turn out again this year. Henley is beautiful and what we do enhances that so it’s great to see so much of the community involved, particularly the children that came this year. It was also nice to be part of the national campaign this year – The Great British Spring Clean.”
Michaela Clarke, leader of 1st Henley Brownies said, “The Brownies had great fun again this year. They treated it as a treasure hunt to see what unusual things they could find. These included a sock, a blown-up balloon, hair bands and even a £2 coin!”
